Product Overview |
Formic Pro is an organic varroa mite treatment that uses formic acid to target mites under the brood cap as well as on adult bees. The strips are biodegradable and safe for use with honey supers on. Beekeepers can choose between a full 14-day continuous treatment or a split application method of 10 days followed by another 10 days, giving flexibility based on colony strength and seasonal conditions. |
Important Information About Formic Pro |
Formic Pro works best when colonies are strong and well-ventilated, and it should only be applied within the temperature range specified by the manufacturer. The strips must remain intact and be placed across the brood area for proper release of vapors. Storing the product in a cool, dry location preserves its shelf life, and handlers should always wear protective equipment when opening and applying the pads. Misuse, such as applying in extreme heat or to weak colonies, can increase the risk of queen loss or excessive bee deaths. |
Tips for Beginners |
For first-time users, plan ahead so the treatment does not overlap with colony stressors like transport or splitting. Apply during the cooler part of the day to reduce bee agitation, and monitor the hive in the first two days to understand how your bees respond. Beginners often find the two-step 10-day plus 10-day method easier to manage, since it allows for a pause to check colony condition before applying the second round. Over time, you will learn to match the method and timing with your local nectar flow and management style for the best results. |
