Product Overview |
A 3-pound package of live bees contained in a wooden box, with a can of sugar syrup to feed the bees during transport and a mated queen enclosed separately in her own cage. The package should be installed as soon as possible after pickup to minimize bee stress and losses. Before picking up your package, prepare the hive where you plan to install the bees and have all necessary tools ready to safely and efficiently complete the installation. |
Important Information About Your Bee Package Pickup |
At Bellaβs Hives, we take great care to find and purchase packages from trusted bee suppliers to provide you with strong, healthy bee packages ready for their new home. If you are buying bee packages in New England from any seller, it is almost certain that those packages will be coming from the southern states, such as Georgia, Alabama, or similar sources, just like ours. These packages are widely used across the region because they are offered at a affordable price, but it is important to understand what that includes and what it does not. We have no control over the queen breeding process carried out by the southern suppliers. The packages are sealed and prepared by the supplier and come with a wooden top that covers the syrup can, and we do not open or alter them. You will pick up your package exactly as it was assembled by the supplier. At the time of pickup, you will be able to see the queen in her cage and confirm that she is alive; if you need help checking her, we are happy to assist. Once the package leaves our location, we do not offer any guarantee on the queen and do not replace queens for any reason, including acceptance, performance, or survivability. This is standard practice with packages sourced from the South, regardless of where you purchase them in New England. If having a guaranteed queen is important to you, we encourage you to consider purchasing a NUC instead. Our NUCs include a queen that is bred locally by us and we guarantee her quality. Please see our NUC product listing for full details. All packages have been inspected and approved by the Department of Agriculture or equivalent authority in their state of origin and meet all requirements for shipment of live bees in Massachusetts. Cancellations made more than 30 days before the pickup date will incur a 50% cancellation fee. Cancellations within 30 days of the pickup date are non-refundable. Once a package is picked up, its care and handling become the customer's responsibility, and Bellaβs Hives cannot offer refunds, exchanges, or replacements after pickup. Because bees are living creatures, their health can be affected by travel conditions, weather, and installation practices. To give your bees the best chance, please plan to install them promptly after pickup, transport them carefully, and have your hive equipment ready. Please make sure to read our Terms and Conditions before placing your order. If a package is not picked up on the scheduled date, we may not be able to offer a refund or replacement. |
Tips for Beginners |
Starting with a bee package is a rewarding experience, but it requires careful attention during installation. When you bring your package home, install the bees into their hive as soon as possible, ideally within a few hours. Keep the package in a cool, shaded, and well-ventilated area during transport. Bees can quickly overheat if ventilation is poor, and overheating can cause them to die before installation. Never leave the package in a hot car or in direct sunlight. Gently introduce the queen following recommended methods, giving the bees time to release her naturally. Feed the colony sugar syrup consistently for the first few weeks to help them build new comb and settle in. Sometimes the syrup can get stuck inside the feeder, so it's a good idea to have a small tool on hand to help clear it if needed. Remember, patience is key. It can take some time for the colony to fully establish itself. Call us if you need help! |
